Treatment Modalities

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapeutic technique that originated to alleviate trauma. Nowadays, it is also employed to address various issues, including anxiety, phobias, fears, and self-esteem challenges. This method utilizes eye movements or other types of bilateral stimulation (BLS) to facilitate the brain’s ability to link traumatic memories with more positive thoughts and perceptions.

Upon completing EMDR treatment, individuals often experience a reduction in emotional distress stemming from unresolved past experiences, as well as a decrease in the physiological symptoms commonly associated with those experiences. EMDR fosters new learning, alleviates blocking beliefs, negative emotions, and behaviors, and promotes the development of healthier behaviors, interactions, and relationships.

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic Experiencing is a body-centered approach designed to alleviate and resolve the symptoms associated with trauma as well as various psychological, emotional, and health-related issues. The foundation of Somatic Experiencing lies in the understanding that during a traumatic event, energy gets activated but often remains unexpressed. This trapped energy can become lodged in the nervous system, disrupting its ability to function smoothly and leading to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, tension, panic, hyper-vigilance, pain, and other physical sensations.

By honing in on the client’s internal sensations, SE facilitates the gentle release of this pent-up energy, helping to restore balanced regulation within the nervous system. As a result, individuals can experience improved mood, reduced tension, increased resilience, and a greater ability to cope with life's challenges.
